We are often asked not to give out funeral details to any callers.
We have a duty to abide by any lawful requests made by the applicant, and when asked, we have to make the cremation/burial authorities aware so that they follow the same procedure.
More often, however, it does eventually surface through the media of the jungle grapevine and often finds its way to be published on Facebook or twitter.
It is very difficult for us to have to tell a near relative that we cannot give any funeral details and we often receive verbal comments and even abuse from those that we cannot tell.
I would like to tell anyone reading this that it is nothing personal from us but we really do have to follow the instructions of the applicant, no matter what the reason they have for withholding details from their family and friends.
Whilst the Council authorities and ourselves are bound by client confidentiality the Church is not and it is often the case that the Church will decide not keep the funeral details secret and will announce them openly in Church and amongst their members.
